Honoring Dan Yankelovich
1924 - 2017

" It takes more than just voting to make democracy work. It takes a responsible, thoughtful public voice. All Americans should be conscious of how precious--and fragile--our democracy is. Participating in making it a more just and effective problem-solving institution is a privilege and ought to be a source of immense personal satisfaction."

Dan Yankelovich was a great American who never stopped working for a better democracy. Along with Cy Vance, he founded Public Agenda on the principle that, under the right conditions, the public is surprisingly open-minded and sensible, capable of reaching well-rounded and responsible positions—what Yankelovich called “public judgment”—and to act on behalf of the common good. Unfortunately, those conditions are in short supply in our age of poisonous partisanship, gridlocked policy, echo chamber discourse and demagoguery.

Advancing sound public judgment and meaningful civic engagement has never been more important. We hope you will make a donation to the Yankelovich Center at Public Agenda to continue Dan's visionary work in creating a democracy that works for all.  Thank you!
